What are AEO and GEO, and does a local business need them?
AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) are the work of getting your business named when someone asks ChatGPT, Google's AI, or Siri a question instead of searching. If your customers ask "who's a good roofer near me" and the answer isn't you, yes, you need it.
For twenty years, being found meant ranking on Google's list of links. That still matters. But a growing share of people now ask a question and get an answer, from Google's AI Overview at the top of the results, from ChatGPT, or from Siri and Alexa, and the answer names one or two businesses instead of showing ten links.
SEO gets you into the list. AEO and GEO get you into the answer. The two overlap a lot, and the honest version of both is the same: clear pages that say what you do, where, for whom, and at what price, plus a Google Business Profile that's complete and current, plus reviews, plus being mentioned in the places those systems trust.
What it looks like in practice
We write your service pages so they answer the question a person would actually ask. We make sure your name, address, phone, and hours are identical everywhere. We add structured data that tells machines what your business is. And we check, every month, what the AI engines say when asked about your kind of business in your town, and fix what's wrong. It's included in our Get found plan; it isn't a separate product with a separate bill.
